REALVIZ To Launch New Product, Movimento, at SIGGRAPH 2006 (Booth 419)
CGIndia News

Sophia Antipolis, France (July 25, 2006) --REALVIZ, a leader in image processing software development, has chosen the forthcoming SIGGRAPH Exhibition in Boston as the venue for the launch of Movimento, the latest addition to the REALVIZ software portfolio. Movimento is a state-of-the-art video-based motion capture solution "Powered by SMART", REALVIZ' powerful automatic 3D tracking engine. Demonstrations of Movimento connected to a 4 CCD camera capture system will take place at the SIGGRAPH Exhibition (REALVIZ booth 419) from Aug 1-3, 2006.

Drawing on REALVIZ' long-standing expertise in 2D and 3D motion tracking, and the solid 8-year success of MatchMover Pro within the visual effects industry, Movimento is a new software, which captures the motion of any non-rigid object from multiple image sequences. Movimento offers users a complete and flexible solution for facial, hand, arm and full-body motion capture across a wide range of applications, from special effects, bio-mechanical research, sports science, orthopedics and engineering to behavioral analysis. Movimento offers users the possibility to combine 3D camera tracking and motion capture processes for applications requiring non-static cameras (on-set mocap, motions spanning a very wide area, or a complex environment) and to automatically reconstruct 3D meshes from the tracked data. Capture is non intrusive, as it can be realized in natural or ambient lighting and requires no specific hardware in the scene.

New Features Include:

Movimento requires a minimum of 2 cameras upwards, which can be either fixed or moving. Any frame rate and/or resolution may also be used. Mocap data from Movimento can also be exported to Autodesk MotionBuilder, 3ds Max, Maya and SOFTIMAGE|XSI for further manipulation. Custom computations and/or exports can be realized through scripting (Python, Perl, TCL/TK). REALVIZ Movimento offers users an affordable, accurate and highly flexible motion capture solution, without the need for a motion capture studio

"With Movimento, we're offering users an innovative solution to the motion capture problem, as well as enabling them to benefit from our top-of-the-range tracking technology and geometry solving engine. Movimento brings an unprecedented combination of flexibility and power to the market, which will open a new track in this field. It also instantly widens the scope beyond standard mocap applications (no constraints on lighting, mobile cameras, heterogeneous camera configurations, on-stage mocap, etc.), whilst making mocap accessible to virtually any facility through very competitive pricing," said Luc Robert, CTO, REALVIZ.

Movimento "Powered By SMART" SMART ('Scalable Matching Architecture for Tracking') is a powerful automatic tracking kernel, based on new generation algorithms, which brings radical performance increase to the REALVIZ tracking products. This new technology, which debuted in 2005, provides 2D tracking up to 6 to 10 times faster than previous engines, whilst simultaneously making optimum use of available processing power. SMART also produces much higher quality feature tracks than previously, more steady, with a longer lifespan and fewer interruptions and drops. The SMART tracking engine also automatically places significantly more tracking points on footage, as well as enabling users to adjust the tracker quantity factor - for smarter and more reliable solves than ever before.

REALVIZ 'SMART' tracking technology is acknowledged as the 'weapon of choice' for post-production professionals worldwide, and has been used to create stunning visual effects in many recent major movies, including: 'Superman Returns', 'V for Vendetta', 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', 'Lord of War', 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', 'Sin City', 'Kung Fu Hustle', 'The Day After Tomorrow', 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow', 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' and 'Alien vs. Predator'.
